August: A month in review

Hello Interwebs!

August has been a crazy month. The end of summer is sadly upon us and back to school, for some sad souls like me, has started a few weeks prior to this post. Regardless, August is a time for new beginnings. The seasons and weather are changing and we are changing with it.  However, this change is good. Life is all about changing and learning to adapt to these new changes.

With school starting it is certainly a time of change and beginnings. Starting the school year off right is essential both socially and academically, and giving it you’re all is the best way to start off the new year. Branch out and meet new people. Be more active in class. Study more and prepare for exams better than you did last year. Meeting new people and starting the year in an active way can really set the tone for the entire year. Who knows you might meet some of the best friends you never knew you would have!

As for my fellow seniors out there, make this year count. It is our last year to spend in High School, and while we want to get out quickly; we shouldn’t wish away what little time we have to spend together away. Go out, make memories,do all of the things you have wanted to do while in High School. Taking the time to make these memories will never be wasted and you will never regret doing too much.

Personally, August really has been a time of new beginnings. I have a new, wonderful, and amazing boyfriend to share my senior year with. New friends and fun experiences planned. I am excited for what this new school year will bring and to share all of that new wisdom with you.

My advice for September: Go out and be the person that you have always wanted to be. You never know what adventures might come out of trying to find your place in this world.

How to start school off right

Hello, Interwebs!Everyone hates starting school right? Though some, like me, actually kind of like it because it is a return to planned schedules and daily routine. That being said, I can’t stress how important it is to start school off right. At the beginning of the year, you set a tone ( though you may not think so) for how you will do the rest of the year. So here are 5 things to help get your year started in the right direction.

1) Get a planner (and use it)

Getting a planner and sticking to using it is the best advice I can give. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy just something functional. Most High Schools nowadays give out their own planners at the beginning of the school year which is really awesome ( because now you don’t have to pay for one). Find a system that works best for you but just make sure to stick with it. Your stress levels will thank you later.

2) Do your homework as soon as you get home

This is another one of those things that I cannot stress enough. Getting into a good habit of doing your homework as soon as you get home allows you time to do your homework with the rest of the night to relax. Plus, if you do your homework now you won’t be stressing about it the night before it is due.

3) Do your homework when it is assigned

Numbers two and three go hand in hand with each other. Doing your homework the day it assigned leaves so much stress out of the equation. Especially if you are on a block schedule like mine, this leaves a whole day to email your teacher if something goes wrong or to get help. Trust me, this really is a life saver and it will make your school life so much more enjoyable.

4) Branch out of your comfort zone

High school is all about becoming the person you are supposed to be. This meaning, that if you don’t go out and try new things then you won’t know if you are really gifted at them. I remember I was so terrified about trying out for drama and I ended up getting into the play and having an incredible experience. I made so many new friends that I would never have met otherwise!

5) Be yourself

I know everyone says this but it really is true. If you are yourself you will find people that like you and those are the types of people you really want to be friends with. No one likes someone who is fake so being yourself and finding some life-long friends is what I think is the best way to go. Some of my friends and other people I love dearly were found this way.

I will leave you with this quote from Dr. Seuss ” Today you are you, that is truer than true. Because no one will be more youer than you”

July: A month in review

Wow! I can’t believe that summer is already over! ( at least for my school) July was a crazy fun month. The first part of the month I spent time in Los Angeles for an amazing Anime Expo which gets better and better every year. Anime Expo is a time in which I don’t have to be ashamed of my love of Japanese animation and it gives me a chance to be creative and show off my hard work on costumes. It also gives us a chance to make new friends with people who are interested in the same things as you. I know that I have made many friendships based on a mutual love of Anime.

For the last half of the month, I was celebrating my birthday! Each birthday brings a new year and new wisdom ( not to mention some sweet presents too). I try to think back on the past year and think about what I have accomplished and what I want to do before this time next year.

This month I also have been working on some new endeavors. This thing is something I have always wanted to do and it allows me to pull my costuming, writing, and acting sides together. ( if you can guess what it is 100 points to you). I have made a close new friend through this and it has been really nice spending hours on skype working with old and new friends on a mutual new hobby.

My word of advice this month ( especially to other Leos): Don’t let your plans for the future get in the way of your present.Instead of focusing on who we wish we could be with, it is better to focus on the people we would have never expected to focus on us instead. Long story short, keeping your head in the clouds forever won’t change things here down on earth.

As always stay classy and stay safe,

Julia C
